[COMPONENTS] Why the unique card size?

There are several reasons we have chosen to engage with a new card size in general (we use this new size for newly produced Angel Fury, for last year’s release StarScrappers: Orbital and we use it with several new game projects which we plan to release in the future):

  1. If the cards have little information on them, it is a waste of space and material to use large cards.

  2. If a younger audience is going to play the game, they can handle these smaller cards MUCH easier (all of us in FryxGames have kids where the size of the cards does matter)

  3. For production reasons, you can fit more cards on one print sheet, making the games cheaper and allowing for more cards per printed deck.

  4. For games with a lot of cards on the table, a smaller size would make such games easier to play.

For us, these reasons are good enough to pursue having appropriately sized cards. Then comes the question of “Why this specific size?”.

  1. It uses the same aspect ratio as standard TCG cards (which is 5:7), making it easy for coming projects to adapt from TCG size to a new smaller size if the project fits the above reasons.

  2. It uses the metric system. Instead of 2,5” x 3,5”, as is the standard TCG size and translates to 63.5mm x 88.9mm, we use an easy to remember and elegant 55x77 mm size.

  3. It is balanced between the TCG standard size which often feels too large and the half-size standard which often feels too small.

  4. We tried several other sizes, but didn’t find them satisfying to hold, shuffle, or manage. The closest candidate was 50x70 which would also be a good fit for the reasons above, but we found it to be too small to effectively convey a moderate amount of information.

For TM: Dice Game, the game is supposed to be a smaller version of TM. It takes less time to play, it has fewer rules, it has less information on the cards, it has less terraforming steps, fewer hexagons on the board, it has fewer components overall, and especially no player boards or resources cubes (as they are now dice). We tried the TCG size at first, but the cards quickly took over the visual impression when they took up more space than the board itself. If you go and browse images of Terraforming Mars, you’ll see plenty of images where people have a hard time fitting the content on the table at all. For some, that is a pleasant problem to solve. For others, it takes away from the gaming experience. We want the Dice Game to be easily accessible and easy to bring along on a trip where you don’t have your full-size game table with you. We fully understand that this decision will spark some controversy, but it is not a decision we made lightly, and we are convinced it makes the game experience better, even if it takes a game or 2 to get used to.

[COMPONENTS] Are the dice engraved or molded?

The dice are made in a custom mold. Just like standard dice that you would get in Yahtzee, or any other game. The areas that hold paint are indented.

Engraving is taking away material, you engrave it into metal or wood.

[PLEDGE LEVEL] If I back at $1 will I gain access to the pledge manager and will late pledges be available?

Yes - we will be using a pledge manager that allows you to upgrade a $1 pledge and will accept late backers for a period of time after the project ends. Please note that there is a time period for completing the pledge manager, after which time some items and/or shipping to some regions may no longer be available.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
